Find My Friends Nearby – Festival App Alternatives

Today has announced Facebook closing down the Find My Friends Nearby feature which uses a GPS signal because of fears over it becoming a “stalking app”. We are a nation obsessed with enjoying the Summer by putting on our Wellington Boots, squelching through the mud and moshing to music. But if your going to festivals and there are crowds of people, how are you going to find them if you get lost? Calling will be useless because you won’t be able to hear over the bass line. How are you going to survive the weekend in a tent with limited electricity and no computer! We have found the top festival apps you need to have to survive the camping festivities and to avoid getting lost. So what are the alternatives?

Find My Friends by Apple – This app is perfect if your one of those people who always gets lost in the crowd. It is available for free on the Apple app store. It’s features allow you to track where your friends are so you can easily locate their exact position in relation to you. Or if your the one that needs to be found, you can share your position so your friends can track you down. This app is ideal if you have lost your friends and your tent!

Glympse by Glympse Inc – Again this app is free and available on the Apple app store. This app is more concerned with safety as it has features that allows you to be tracked only when you allow it. After that period of time you can “stop watching” where your friends are once you have found them. However because it uses Google Maps it works best in built up areas rather than festivals because you can plan the route to take.

Other alternatives also include GlastoNav which is specifically designed just for Glastonbury festival. There is also Tent Finder which allows you to tag your tent on your GPS.

Tell us which one you rate and how you are going to avoid getting lost in the mud.
