“Liking” on Facebook is extremely popular, and now a new addition has been uncovered by in the SDK by a developer called Tom Waddington.
The tag is known as <fb:wants>. It will most definitely be linked to e-commerce, although there are not many details available about the plugin just yet.
This would allow users to add items to a virtual wish list, quite like on Amazon. Oh wait, could this mean a marketing tactic and a potential advertising campaign link between Facebook and Amazon or another major retailer? People would be able to wish for items that they want, and then be suggested the best place to buy them for the cheapest price, or the most reputable seller, or in Facebook’s case, the advertising company who pays the most to be on that user’s wish list.
I would be wishing for some really cool gadgets and seeing if people would actually be able to sell them. It would be interesting to see the developments of this plugin, and as this news has just come to light, this news piece will be updated over time with more information regarding the cool new upcoming feature.
UPDATE: The plugin currently works in Facebook’s Open graph development mode, and is not yet available as a Social Plugin
