Who is Opening the London 2012 Olympic Games?

There is only 17 days until the opening ceremony for the London 2012 Olympic Games, but there are still rumours about who is opening it on 27th July 2012. The ceremony is a celebration of the best of the British and will also feature the final journey of the Olympic flame which will ignite the start of the Olympic Games. The ceremony has been named as ‘Isles of Wonder’ and will start at 9pm GMT at the Olympic Stadium, London.

‘Our Isles of Wonder salutes and celebrates the exuberant creativity of the British genius in an Opening Ceremony that we hope will be as unpredictable and inventive as the British people.’ Danny Boyle, artistic director for the opening ceremony.

It has been revealed that the stadium is going to be transformed into a British farmyard with real animals and a countryside feel. This will be followed with performances from the likes of  Duran Duran, Snow Patrol, Stereophonics and Paolo Nutini. Other performers which have been asked and are not yet confirmed include Spice Girls (excluding Victoria Beckham) and One Direction. It has also been confirmed that Sir Paul McCartney (from Beatles) will be performing at the closing ceremony.

It is estimated that a global viewing of both the opening and closing of the ceremonies will reach over 4 billion people. If the New Years Eve fireworks and Queen’s Jubilee are anything to go by then this is going to be one not to miss!

If you want to find out more about the line-up, visit the official site for more details. They are yet to release full details of all the acts, but watch this space over the upcoming weeks ahead. Check it out here at http://www.london2012.com/spectators/ceremonies/opening-ceremony/
