I have heard a lot about The Inbetweeners lately. As a Brit, I love the film, the series and the humour. It works brilliantly and so as most people were, I was unhappy to hear that they are planning a US remake.
I was browsing YouTube earlier today, and I came across the video which claims to be the first trailer of the US Inbetweeners Remake. It is disastrous. Usually, when it is a remake, there are some things which are similar, but this appears to be a complete mirror of the UK version, to the word. Every single little thing that happened or was said in the trailer, already happened in the UK version. I don’t understand it. The film is being redone to fit with the US style of humour, but if the jokes are exactly the same, then obviously the humour is understood, so there was no need to remake it at all?
In Britain, we watch films. A lot of countries do this you see. Pretty much all films that are on, are American. Stars such as Scarlett Johansson, Cameron Diaz, Brad Pitt. All American, big movies, on all the time. British movies are rare. I admit they are not always very good and sometimes I even struggle to find them funny if they are aimed at being a comedy, but at the same time The Inbetweeners series, and movie is hilarious. It’s ours, and the lovely citizens of the US should be able to watch the film as a UK film. The same way we watch US films all the time, and think nothing of it, even when an American comes on all the time pretending to be English with a scarily bad accent as if she has spent half her life in the countryside and then suddenly socialised a lot in London. We don’t complain, so why is this happening to us, to me, to everyone?
Here is the US trailer. I can’t be too critical. After all, 90% of Suck My Trend’s visitors are from the US. But at the same time, you must be able to see where I am coming from?
Let’s examine the statistics of that video. Every comment hates it, and it has a whopping 365 likes…Oh and 21,000 dislikes. Good job.
Oh, and here is the original, UK Trailer for series 3 of the UK version.
Didn’t this happen with Skins as well? Honestly guys.
The Inbetweeners US version will continue to be a trending topic, especially on YouTube, and we will be keeping track.
