The Playstation 3D Monitor is a beautiful piece of gaming technology. More people are becoming interested in the 3D experience this time round, especially as it becomes available as a gaming platform, bringing an additional level of realism to games such as First Person Shooters.
In America, the 3D monitor by Sony, designed specifically for the Playstation 3, is only costing $252 on sites like Amazon.com. This is quite a reasonable price, and this has led to a high number of sales in the US.
However, in the UK, it would seem that 3D technology has not kicked off as much. We still enjoy having a 2D TV with HD quality, watching our soap operas. The rich are the ones who seem to be purchasing the 3D televisions, so maybe that is why Sony is charging such a high amount for the same 3D display in our country. On Amazon.co.uk, instead of Amazon.com, the same 3D monitor is £449.99, instead of the $252 in the US. That price was also in pounds. According to today’s exchange rates, £449.99 is actually $705.84. So, basically, in the UK we have to pay $453 more simply to enjoy the exact same item. This doesn’t make any sense whatsoever.
The strange thing is, there are other 3D televisions with bigger displays that can be picked up for the same price, or near enough, and most of these televisions will be compatible with the Playstation 3.
It just doesn’t make any sense. It’s not just Amazon either, this is the RRP (Recommended Retail Price) for the UK, made by Sony. It’s just an obscene amount of money to be spending on the same item. With the US price, I could actually almost purchase three of the same televisions for the same price as the UK RRP.
What’s the deal with this? Usually technology just adds an extra hundred if it’s in dollars from what I usually see, not this crazy amount.
