I like this idea of a group of Hackers convening onto a deserted island somewhere, to open up their minds and see what they can come up with. This is a news story covered on the BBC website today, currently trending on the net and one which will surely grow in interest as the idea goes forwards.
The guy behind the idea is Walter Heck. He plans to get 12 participants who have the skills and enthusiasm to spend some time on an island, without any major distraction. Talking of a small fee to attend, Mr. Heck was quoted, “It’s a submission fee that’s largely symbolic, it’s to keep away the people that are planning to party all the time or are not serious about their project.”
If you are a hardcore programmer, there are some benefits to time on a lost island:
• You will be fed , and watered (perhaps with rum if you are lucky)
• You are going to get a holiday out of it.
• You will probably get recognition for any hacking achievements, and not be frowned upon by the law.
Even though you might think a deserted island would not be a suitable place for housing a big computer hacking event, Mr. Heck says that a lot of the islands in the Philippines have got a good power supply and communication links to provide the essential connections to the World Wide Web.
So most of us have vital things we would want to take to a desert Island, and here are three of the most popular;
1) A friend
2) A tent (that makes sense)
3) A survival aid, perhaps a knife or a torch
What we want to know here at Suck My Trend is what 3 items a computer hacker would choose to take… so give us feedback people.
