Fabrice Muamba has retired from Football after suffering a Cardiac Arrest on the pitch back in March.
Fabrice received immediate medical attention on the pitch, and if he had not, he may have died. He was not breathing for several minutes on the pitch and had suffered a heart attack.
He has been recovering over the past few months, and recently went over to Belgium to see a cardiology specialist, and he was told that he needs to retire from football to ensure that similar problems do not occur. It would see that even though Muamba managed to heal well and clearly survived a near death experience, the weakness that he retains in his heart is not going to go away, and active sports like Football are simply and opener for problems.
The doctors said that Fabrice was infact dead for 78 minutes, but was able to be retrieved and get his heart going again. He was in intensive care for a total of 4 weeks, and was finally discharged.
The most important thing is that he is still alive, and his family have their whole lives ahead of them to enjoy, regardless of being able to play football or not. Fabrice said he was “honoured” to have been able to play at the highest level of football, after he had enjoyed the sport since he was a teenage boy.
