If anything is trending, then it has to be Facebook.
Here is a lovely chart thanks to VentureBeat showing the amazing growth of this site as they close in on 1 billion people accessing the site every single month.

It is going to happen soon, perhaps by the end of May. 1 billion people. 1 billion dollars just raised from the Instagram sale helping things out a bit, and of course the purchase of TagTile, and GazeHawk recently too.
This new media coverage telling people its coming near might help to spur some more registrations, as well as bring some inactive people back, bringing that 1 Billion mark to us before the start of June. Well, that is my estimate anyway.
What will change when Facebook hits a billion users?
Well, I doubt anything will change, but I sense they will do something special as it is an amazing milestone, and 2 billion is unlikely to ever be achieved. (I feel that before that point arrives, Facebook will have dropped in popularity and something new may have come along, perhaps Google+) Who knows when they will hit a billion. I’m not quite sure about their tactics yet, they appear to be grabbing everyone over at the moment who is getting bored of Facebook, and then eventually they will put out a massive advertising campaign. I have seen a TV advert however, to be fair to them.
So Facebook is growing at this alarming rate. Twitter needs to do something crazy now too and announce a gazillion “tweets per day”, and Wikipedia needs to announce they have a “million fake article submissions” a day.
