Hurricane Isaac is heading slowly towards New Orleans and the city has already since citizens fleeing the area. This hurricane is not as powerful as Katrina was when it hit exactly 7 years ago, but it does mean the citizens are relieving a nightmare that they were already lucky to survive.
The hurricane is estimated to be around 80mph winds when it hits.
Hurricane Isaac has already killed 24 people around Haiti and the Dominican Republic as it hit those areas according to BBC News.
A mass evacuation has not yet taken place around the soon to be affected areas of Mississippi and Louisiana as the Category 1 Hurricane comes in.
Many residents of New Orleans have said they will secure their homes and stay put after hearing Isaac will not be as powerful as Katrina. If they can handle Katrina, then Isaac should be a walk in the park for them. Let’s hope so.
58,000 Homes in New Orleans have already lost power.
We will keep you updated on the progress of the storm. Luckily it has toned down in strength and we hope that it will continue to do so. Hang in there, New Orleans!
