These Celebrity hoaxes are going a little crazy this week. We tend to see quite a few pop up every so often, but this week in particular has send a big trend in celebrity deaths which have not actually happened. First we heard Eddie Murphy had been killed in a Snowboard accident. We were then alerted that Bill Cosby had passed away, and now it would seem that Rihanna has had a heart attack. All of course are fake hoaxes which people have believed, and shared among friends. Now they are viral and more people think it’s true, leading to a huge rise in searches on the internet for these names in particular.
For Eddie Murphy, a fake website was set up to go viral, which it did with over 32,000 people “Liking” the page. It also has a clever code installed within the source which changes the date of the article to today’s date. That keeps the news fresh, and viral. For Bill Cosby, an RIP Facebook Page was set up, and it attracted over 300,000 Likes on the social networking site. And for Rihanna? A fake photoshopped article being spread around on Twitter to look like a French News site. That image can be found attached with this article.#
Last year Rihanna suffered another hoax, which said that she had died in a plane crash. GossipCop has the full report on that one.
