Anonymous have hit the internet news again. This time they have claimed that they have access to 12 million Apple IDs that were originally seized by the FBI.
They have already released 1 million of them, and the FBI has said that they did not get the information from them, and that Anonymous lied. The FBI were quoted as saying:
The FBI is aware of published reports alleging that an FBI laptop was compromised and private data regarding Apple UDIDs was exposed. At this time there is no evidence indicating that an FBI laptop was compromised or that the FBI either sought or obtained this data.
Perhaps some more news about that will come around soon. The thing is, Anonymous said that they would not post any information regarding the hack unless a writer for Gawker named Adrian Chen posted a picture of himself in a tutu with a shoe on his head, and placed it on the homepage of Gawker.com for 24 hours. We weren’t sure if he would do it, but sure enough, it’s happened.
But why was Adrian Chen targetted? Well, Gawker is quite a big website, and Adrian Chen is a well known writer. He posted about Anonymous before, and was sceptical about their operations. It would seem Anonymous wanted to get him back for this, and they have succeeded, as the picture attached with this article is now going viral all over the internet. I wonder what other media outlets will be covering this. We will definitely be keeping track.
