The Flintstone Bicycle becomes a Sporting Sensation - Suck My Trend

The Flintstone Bicycle becomes a Sporting Sensation

I am a keen Cyclist, so when I see cycling news popping up, I always tend to give it a little read. However, the news I saw today was rather different from the usual cycling news that pops up, and this one has become a huge hit all over the internet.

It would seem someone is the fan of The Flintstones, as a group of designers in Germany have created a bicycle version of the Fred Flintstone Mobile’s you see in the hit TV Program from back in the day.

This bicycle has no pedals and no seat. In order to use it, you simply strap yourself in and walk as normal with the bike over the top of you. Once you start to pick up speed you run for a bit to get your required speed and then lean back and glide to your destination. Downhill this would be great, and on the straights you would be able to get a decent amount of distance in the lying down position you’d be in to allow the wind to fly over you and not bring in too much resistance. However, what about uphill? I think you’d have to just walk up the hill like normal, making this item rather pointless in those situations, and there is a lot of uphill terrain in the world.

If you have been to a theme park and seen the ride called Air, you will understand why I can’t help but see a similarity.

The cycle looks like it could work, but unless the sporting trends change quite drastically, it will be unlikely that we shall see this on our roads any time soon.
