Henrique de Castro hired as a Yahoo Exec – Another one from Google

I was curious to see what Marissa Mayer had planned after taking over Yahoo as the new CEO. I wasn’t quite expecting to find that another Google employee has moved on over to the competitor and joined the Executive area of the Yahoo business. Henrique de Castro will become the next CEO of the company, and not only will he recieve a nice sum of $600,000 as a salary, he will also receive $58 million in share options. If he makes more profits for Yahoo, he could walk away with a huge amount of money after four years.

Yahoo is still on the down, and is dropping in traffic, stats and people are still unsure what to actually use the site for. Some will use it as a search engine, if they prefer not to use Google or something like DuckDuckGo. Others will use it for News and Entertainment articles. Yahoo news is massive, and it gets a huge amount of daily traffic. Personally I can see some more work being put into that side of things and then the company working off as a portal rather than a search engine which it was originally known for. Of course this is just my personal opinion, but it is the approach I could see working with the traffic and users they are getting. The way they have Facebook integrated into their Yahoo News application is genius and helps to make pretty much all their news articles go viral as people read them via Facebook and auto post to their walls about it.

It will be interesting to see what Henrique brings to the table, although Google must be starting to get a bit worried now that their main competition is becoming an army of past employees who potentially know more than anyone about how the company works and those legendary algorithms.
