Business tycoon Donald Trump posted a video announcement earlier today, challenging President Obama to release his college records and applications, and his passport records and applications. In return, Trump will supposedly give $5M to a charity of Obama’s choice, providing that the evidence is “to [his] satisfaction”. According to Trump, the evidence must reach his desk by 17:00 on the 31st October in order to secure the charity funds.
This announcement comes after Trump’s demand last year that he see the President’s birth certificate, after some claimed that Obama had not actually been born in the United States. The President subsequently released his birth certificate, which stated his birthplace as Hawaii.
It seems, however, Trump is not satisfied, and even calls into question the authenticity of the birth certificate provided last year, dismissing it as “whatever it may be”. A notorious Republican, Trump claims that Obama is “the least transparent president in the history of this country”, and states that many people have questions regarding their President.
The Twitter reaction to the announcement has been fairly biased against the tycoon, saying that if Trump had really wanted to give money to charity (which he professes to strongly) he would not be making this deal. Others say that Trump is merely attention-seeking and the video is a publicity stunt. Whether Obama decides to cave in to the demands or ignore them remains to be seen.
Below is the announcement, which was posted on Youtube:
