Apple Considering Twitter Takeover in 2013?

Twitter is a hot topic these days and is only set to get bigger and bigger in 2013, especially as it is now seen as a viable tool for other companies to make money. This may have also put it within the radar of companies looking for a possible acquisition. Is it possible that Apple may be considering a Twitter takeover in 2013?

The value of Twitter has increased dramatically, so only a company with seriously large revenue would be able to afford such an audacious takeover bid. Apple is one of the few companies that may be able to afford such a move without (too) much of a noticeable dent in its massive bank balance.

The internet seems to be becoming more like a battleground, as companies rise and fall and compete with each other for the interest and attention of users. Every click can bring in revenue for a site and the big internet based companies; Google, Facebook, Yahoo! etc. are worth billions of dollars and rake in millions in advertising. Twitter has now joined the big league.

Of course Apple is one of the richest companies in the world but is still to have fully figured out the internet. They are yet to have a serious social media presence so in that sense are losing out to the other big-hitters. Because of this it would make sense for Apple to takeover Twitter in order to increase its online presence and have a serious social media presence.

This is all just a possible prediction of what could happen to Twitter in 2013 though and there are many reasons why it won’t. The most important reason is that for a long time Twitter has said that it wishes to remain an independent company. Added to this is that the company is now valued at $8.4 billion!

Apple is one of the few companies that wouldn’t really be affected much by such a serious takeover cost, and Twitter could be just what it need to fully understand the internet. Social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Google+ are incredibly useful tools as they offer the companies huge amounts of data and information about their users including shopping habits and preferences. If Apple acquires Twitter then it will have more of this information at its disposal.

Could such a massive takeover take place in 2013? Nobody knows for sure but it is definitely a possibility. Even though Twitter has said it wishes to remain independent until at least 2014, if there was an offer of $10 billion on the table right now it would be hard to snub.

Who do you think such a takeover would help more, Twitter or Apple?
