It was already known that the third Iron Man movie in the blockbuster series would be released in 3-D. Now to further excite fans it has been announced that Iron Man 3 will be getting the IMAX treatment. The news was released yesterday by IMAX and Marvel that the film will get digitally blown up for the large screen format. Some filmmakers, including big names such as Christopher Nolan actually prefer IMAX to 3-D.
Iron Man 3 was shot neither in 3-D nor IMAX, so it remains to be seen what effect this will have on the final product when it is seen by audiences. It seems that what Marvel (a subsidiary of Disney) is most concerned about is profits and IMAX can be very profitable. It is reported that The Avengers snagged an additional $15 million from IMAX screenings and The Dark Knight Rises made an extra $19 million.
Marvel has pretty much stated at this point that all of its upcoming movies will either be shown in 3D, IMAX or both. This includes “Thor: The Dark World” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” which will both get the IMAX 3-D treatment.
“Robert Downey Jr. stars as Tony Stark for the fourth time in “Iron Man 3,” with Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle returning as Pepper Potts and James “Rhodey” Rhodes, respectively. The villain this time will be the Mandarin (Ben Kingsley), an international super-terrorist who has traditionally been Stark’s greatest and deadliest villain in the comics.”
The global release dates for the film have also been released. It is set for to be released on 26th of April in the UK slightly ahead of the US where it will be released on 3rd May. Other release dates can be found on IMDB.
I saw Iron Man 2 at the cinema and was very impressed with the special effects, the acting was good and it had an interesting plot so I may check out the latest offering when it is released. To see it in 3-D at an IMAX screening would be very expensive though so I’m not sure if it is worth the extra money.
Are you excited about seeing Iron Man 3 and would you pay extra to see it in IMAX 3-D?
