So at the end of first quarter we are receiving reports regarding the sales of smartphones, tablets and the like. Speaking of tablets, ABI Research has put forth its report regarding the sales of tablet in first quarter and not much to our surprise Apple is back on the top. The new iPad managed to increase its sales and gained its market share. On the other hand Kindle Fire seemed little shabby as it moved to third spot and Samsung took the second place. During the Q1 Samsung shipped 1.1 million tablets.
As for Apple, it shipped over 11.8 million units during the first quarter, pretty big lead over Samsung. Apple currently holds 65 percent of the tablet market. Amazon’s Kindle Fire does not seem to hold its ground and saw a decline to 33 percent.
Apple was struggling with its sale previously but with the launch of iPad 3 its sales really grew. As for the second quarter, there are not any significant rivals we expect to see Apple keeping its stronghold during the Q2. Last year Apple continued to augment its sales but we are still little skeptical as to whether third generation iPad will be able to sustain its market growth this year.
But things will get pretty rough during the Q3 as we anticipate to see Google’s sub 200 Tegra 3 tablet coming out. And Amazon is also planning to release the successor of Kindle Fire. But there are also some rumors surging regarding the release of 7” iPad model which will be aimed at the low-end consumer.
