The 23 year old Soldier was in a busy underground station in Western Paris where he was stabbed in the throat by a man believed to be of North African descent.

These give clues that the attack in Paris may be related to the horror that occurred in Woolwich, London a few days ago where Lee Rigby, a UK Soldier, was butchered to death in the street with meat cleavers. It is not yet known whether or not the attack in Paris was influenced, or whether the group are working together and are acquaintances. This news comes as more arrests have been made in the Woolwich case.

The Soldier, who has not yet been named, was patrolling the Business area of Western Paris, part of an Anti Terrorist Patrol. It was then that he was approached from behind and the attack happened.

CCTV Footage suggests that the man was tall, bearded and around the age of 35. He was also wearing a white arab-style tunic, according to authorities.

The difference in this case is that the French Soldier has not been killed. Lee Rigby sadly suffered a brutal death and his body was left on a Woolwich street until the Police arrived, armed, and shot the attackers. The French Soldier is said to be in a stable condition in hospital, and will hopefully be able to provide some clues into his attack and why it happened once he is stable enough to have a conversation.

Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian has been visiting the Soldier in Hospital, and he has said:

“They tried to kill the soldier because he was a soldier.”

In order to stem this and bring back advertising money there has been a concerted effort to switch a lot of the Yahoo brand to mobile internet browsing and also to purchase other companies that can help them in the future. It recently purchased Sumly, a mobile news browsing app, and at the start of this week bought Tumblr for a huge $1.1 billion deal. It seems the shopping is not finished there though. Which company is Yahoo bidding for next?

It seems that all these acquisitions are pieces in a puzzle of Yahoo’s final master plan to see it rise to a prominent or dominant position again. It has been reported that Yahoo has put forward an offer to buy the video streaming website Hulu. This seems like a clear desire to try to challenge the enormous video streaming power that Google holds with YouTube. Earlier this year Yahoo had expressed a strong interest to buy the French video streaming website Dailymotion, but unfortunately for Yahoo the French government threatened to block a deal. Yahoo has switched its attention to Hulu which is an  American company.

In putting forward a formal proposal to buy Hulu, Yahoo will be directly competing against rival bidders such as Time Warner Cable Inc, DirecTV, former News Corp president Peter Chernin and Guggenheim Digital Media.

“At least five bidders have emerged for the five-year-old video service with 4 million users, potentially setting up a bidding competition. A second source close to the bidding said the offers submitted so far were non-binding and dependent on Hulu amending content licensing agreements the bidders found too restrictive.”

With such high profile purchases can Yahoo return to prominence?

This amazing image was captured by photographer Chris Fallows Seal Island at False Bay, South Africa. Fallows and his wife Monique run Apex Shark Expeditions in South Africa.

The image was captured in 2010 as part of an Apex sunrise shark-viewing tour. The decoy Fallows used to incite the sharks to attack is made from carpet in order to avoid injuring the animals.

“It was taken in July and the magic of the sun rising behind the breaching shark was no coincidence, as we had tried to position ourselves in such a way to best capture the beauty of the morning’s sunrise,” Fallows explained.

Sharks get a bad press for rather obvious reasons. They have never been the most lovable creatures, and films like Jaws further heightened people’s fear of them. Your chances of being attacked or even worse eaten by a shark are tiny but sharks still evoke fear and respect.

Millions of people in most countries of the world love drinks which contain caffeine, and to many people starting the day without their hot cup of tea or coffee seems almost impossible. This caffeinated kick is what gets people ready for the working day.

According to New Scientist caffeine is the world’s most popular ”psychoactive drug.” It is estimated that 90% of people in the U.S. alone consume it every day!

Now though even the US which is the home of Starbucks, Coca-Cola and the 5-hour-energy-shot, is starting to question whether the addition of the stimulant to everyday food items such as jelly beans and waffles is really such a good idea.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is looking into the harmful effects of adding caffeine to products, and things for sale such as highly-caffeinated drinks and even caffeinated chewing gum.

In 2011 alone there were 20,000 people who required emergency treatment from ingesting energy drinks according to the US Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. These kind of problems seem to be the wake up call that is needed when dealing with this huge issue.

Predictably the energy drink companies have said their products are completely safe and that there is no link to any harmful reactions. This is reminiscent to the argument of cigarette companies decades ago when they even tried to argue that smoking was healthy.

Scientists have discovered that withdrawal symptoms to caffeine include “tiredness, headaches, difficulty concentrating, muscle pain and nausea.”

There is not a clear-cut consensus though on this issue though. For example  a recent study by the Harvard School of Public Health suggested that ”coffee drinking doesn’t have any serious detrimental health effects” and that drinking up to six cups a day was “not associated with increased risk of death from any cause.”

In moderation, caffeine consumption may actually be beneficial with reduced risks of certain types of cancer and a lower risk of type two diabetes.

It seems that the problem like with many things is not coffee or tea consumption in moderation but the over-consumption of caffeine. For many people drinking tea or coffee gives them a buzz and stimulates them to work. Unlike other drugs which are used for recreational purposes such as alcohol, caffeine is used as a stimulant which is used to improve productivity.

There is a long list of famous individuals who consumed large amounts of coffee such as David Lynch, Ludwig van Beethoven and Robbie Williams. For them the creative process is said to have been improved through caffeine boosts. By comparison though most people do not consume caffeine to such high levels.

The largest coffee consuming country in the world is Finland where “the average adult consumes 400mg of the drug every day – equivalent to four or five cups of coffee a day, and equal to the maximum daily limit recommended by the UK Food Standards Agency.”

The Fins see no problem with the amount of coffee that is drunk because it is mainly drunk by adults as opposed to children. They are starting to see a problem with other caffeine containing products though such as energy drinks, especially as these hold more of an appeal to children and teens.

“Challenging the hegemony of caffeine may be a difficult task on a planet that consumes 120,000 tonnes of the substance per annum.”

Personally I love drinking tea and coffee and enjoy meeting up with friends and going to a cafe for a latte. I never drink energy drinks though as the health implications are worrying to me, plus they just don’t taste very nice. The aroma of freshly ground coffee holds a much greater appeal.

What helped propel Ramsey to national fame was the humorous interview he gave after the rescue. After the rescue on May 6th Ramsey told reporters ”I heard screaming,” ”I’m eating my McDonald’s, I come outside, I see this girl going nuts trying to get out of her house. So I go on the porch and she says, ‘Help me get out, I’ve been here a long time.’”

The McDonald’s detail was soon seized upon by internet users and the fast-food chain became inundated with requests for burger loving Ramsey to be rewarded for his bravery.

It seems that this has become reality as Charles Ramsey’s valiant efforts have been honored with something called a “Chuck Card” which will allow Ramsey to eat free burgers for life at restaurants in and around Cleveland. The idea for this card was thought up by Scott Kuhn of the Driftwood Restaurant Group.

“We want to honor our local hero with local food,” Kuhn told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “He stopped his meal midway through to help those women. We’re now making sure he has other opportunities to go out and fully enjoy his burger.”

Meanwhile at the restaurant at which Ramsey works as a dishwasher, Hodge’s Cleveland, a new Charles Ramsey inspired hamburger was unveiled on May 13th which is called the #RamseyBurger. So far it has received rave reviews on Twitter.

George Zimmerman has always maintained that he defended himself against Trayvon Martin who attacked him first. George was charged with the crimes of his death and has been in and out of court for the past year.

New texts and images from Trayvon Martin’s mobile phone have now been released, and they appear to show particular evidence that would benefit the defence of Zimmerman, and that would be why they released it online themselves. However, because of the way this data has now been leaked to the world, it is most likely not going to be allowed as evidence in court, making the whole process pointless. It seems that George Zimmerman wants the world to simply know he is innocent before going down for a crime he does not believe he is responsible for.

25 photos were released of Trayvon Martin appearing to hold a semi automatic weapon along with ammunition.

Various Texts were also sent and received on the device, showing that Martin was potentially a drug user, and had access to firearms.

“I got weed nd I get money Friday,” a message sent from his phone said.

“I hid m weed,” another text sent from Martin’s phone reads. “its wrapped.”

In one text message exchange sent 12 days before Martin’s death last year, he tells an unidentified friend that he has been suspended from school.

“Why you not in school?” reads a text sent to Martin’s phone.

“Suspended.”

“I thought you was going out with ur friend.”

“Naw my ol g say she dont want me home caus she think ima get in mo trouble,” Martin allegedly texts back.

Multiple pictures were released, but only certain Leaking sites appear to be posting them to the world, potentially to avoid any more issues during the court case. We do not have access to any of the images that would cause issues with the case, such as Trayvon holding any guns, but we do have one image of what appears to be Trayvon giving the finger.

Jane was kept at Boston Children’s Hospital for 39 days, and has now been moved to a rehabilitation centre so she can regain her strength and stamina after so much surgery and shock to her system at such a young age.

She is expected to regain that strength, and a family spokesperson said the following:

“While we remain devastated over Martin’s death and all that has happened to us, Jane’s determination for getting better is an inspiring source of strength for the entire family,”

This video has gone viral and has been seen 127,284 times on this YouTube channel alone.

Considering the bravado of the two men at the start of the video it is hard not to laugh, even if they do look like they are in considerable pain by the end of the test. Hats off to them for giving this a try and for admitting that women are definitely not overemphasizing how much pain can be involved in giving birth.
